What quantum computing can do

The New York Times today has an interesting article on quantum computing.

Which raises the interesting question: what does quantum computing mean for philosophy? What does it mean for the research agenda of the humanities? I'm not sure the answer is easy but I'm sure it is profound -- there is a restlessness out there, a restlessness to restore to the humanities the hard power of the rational sciences, the gravity of pure "research" and a drive to do what it takes. Can quantum computing provide that? I hope so!
